Here at The Wedding Mode, we've seen all sorts of wedding photos. As seasoned photographers, we understand that it is hard to focus on looking good when you are entertaining 300 guests at the same time. That's why we work closely with our clients to ensure a job well done.
That said, not all people are comfortable in front of the camera and apart from hiring the best photographers in the business (that's us), we are giving you a few simple photography tips so you'll look perfect in your wedding photos:
Practice Makes Perfect
Nervous in front of the camera? Practice your poses regularly to banish on-cam jitters. Remember, if you are nervous or stressed while filming, it will show on your smile and in your eyes. Set some time from your busy schedule to perfect your pose, find out what angles enhance your best assets and discover which lighting is more flattering.
Book an Engagement Shoot
If you're getting married, we highly recommend booking for an engagement shoot! Apart from getting to know the photographers who will document your wedding day, you can collaborate with them so you are always filmed in the most flattering angles. Our seasoned photographers are always ready to work with you to ensure every photoshoot is comfortable. By the time the big day arrives, you are more comfortable posing in front of the camera.
Schedule Trial Runs
Still uncomfortable on cam? Why not do several trial runs before the actual shoot? Get a friend to snap a couple of pictures on special events. Study the pictures to determine which pose looks the most flattering or natural to you. Do this regularly until you mastered your poses.
Hitting All the Right Angles
Ladies (and gents), there's absolutely no need to stick to a fad diet to look great in pictures. You can trust your wedding photographer to capture your best angles. But if you want to hit all the right angles, master all the body slimming poses.
To look taller and slimmer in photos, roll your shoulders back, push your chest out a little and jut the hips to the left or right. You can put one hand on the hips to give the illusion of slimmer arms too.
We've already revealed several face slimming poses to avoid that dreaded double chin (elongating the neck and lifting the chin ever so slightly) but another great trick is to twist your head slightly away from the camera. This works great even if your photographer is shooting from a low angle! To perfect that "natural" smile, try touching the roof of your mouth, just behind the front teeth with your tongue then say cheese!
If you feel better being filmed from the right or left side of your face, let your photographer know. If your wedding dress has an interesting design that you'd like to highlight during filming (such as intricate details on the back), talk to your photographer to capture it.
Don't Try a New Look
Special occasions are a great way to sport a new look but not if it's your wedding day! It takes a lot of practice to look perfect on the big day and that includes the hairstyle and makeup. That's not to say there's no room for experimentation when you're getting married. Our advice is to experiment with your look a few months before the wedding day.
For instance, if you want to chop all your hair off or try a new skin treatment, get it done before the actual wedding preparations start. This way, you can settle on the perfect look ahead of the event.
Take Care of the Little Things
When it comes to looking great in wedding photos, the devil is in the details. Hide tan lines, tuck the tags, powder your nose, remove lipstick stains on your teeth, all these seemingly minor details will have a big impact on the way the photos turn out. To make sure you look great while filming, give your maid of honor reign to check you throughout the wedding.
